The Great Big Upcycled Design Awards Evening
February 9, 2016
Some tremendous upcycled items were on show at the awards for the UK’s first interschool’s upcycling competition.
The Great Big Upcycled Design Competition was launched in September across a number of schools within Cheshire East. The aim was to get Year 7 students to think differently about waste. They were challenged to be innovative and to make the most creative and inventive items they could from materials that are normally thrown away.
Presentations to the winners took place last Tuesday (2 February) in the Grand Hall at Congleton Town Hall. The winners were:
- Most Useful Product – Starry Night Lamp by Owen, Tim, Josh, Dom and Jacob from The Fallibroome Academy, Macclesfield
- Craziest Creation – Water Feature by Sebastian from All Hallows Catholic College, Macclesfield
- Coolest Design – Metal Butterfly by Elizabeth from All Hallows
- Best Product – Assorted Christmas Decorations by Kian, Olivia, Libby, Trinity, Holly, Jake, Joshua, Max and Thomas from Poynton High School
Other schools which took part in the challenge were Shavington Academy and Sandbach School. It was sponsored by Ansa Environmental Services Ltd and delivered by Groundwork. Following its success the competition will continue - the Second Great Big Upcycling Design Competition will start in September 2016. It will be open to entries from high school students from all schools and in all years across Cheshire East.
